2021 is here. You made it… I made it… but most importantly,
Now let’s all do some shots.
And a little superstition won’t hurt anything either. (I ate them for the first time!)
Let’s get to some good stuff!
Watching: I may have reached the end of the internet. I feel like there’s nothing left to watch! I’m hoping Netflix will surprise me with some New Year’s Marie Kondo/Home Edit-style organizing/decluttering show.
Listening: Actually, I have been watching something new this week, but it’s about music so I didn’t think of it until I got to this category. Song Exploder on Netflix is really good - a behind-the-scenes look about how a song is made, songwriting, inspiration, instrumentals, collaborators, etc. I’m not hugely into music but there’s something for everyone - lots of genres (R.E.M., Dua Lipa, The Killers, Hamilton). My husband has a background in sound engineering and he was totally geeking out on it.
Reading: I finished The Switch by Beth O’Leary for my new “happy book club” that I am starting with a couple of friends who were getting tired of all the depressing picks that many book clubs seem to gravitate towards. I suspect we may read a lot of romances, since I think they’re fairly predictably happy at the end of the story. It’s a cute book - like the movie “The Holiday” but with a 79-year-old grandma and 20-something granddaughter trading places. I really loved how they gave the grandma just as robust a social and romantic life in their swapped lives (maybe more so?) than the granddaughter.
Cooking: One of my kids has been super-picky lately, so I thought I should report a couple of successes I’ve had.
This sheet pan fajita recipe was really tasty and way easier than standing over a hot pan.
I made the sauce from this Orange Chicken recipe and tossed in chicken nuggets from Sam’s… my family declared it “better than Panda” which is basically the equivalent of winning a gold medal.
(Reminder - all the recipes I’ve posted are available on the 🌸🍎 Dogwood Recipe Archive 🌸🍔)
Crafting: I am knitting the never-ending orange socks like a madwoman because I treated myself to some Sundara Yarns sock yarn for Christmas and I want to start a project with it! Now taking recommendations for handsome men’s sock patterns.
Planning: In typical Sarah fashion, I decided on a whim to take on not one, not two, but THREE year long challenges for 2021 between Dec 31 and Jan 1.
The Bible Recap (1 year chronological reading plan with commentary)
Stay tuned to see which of these I actually stick with!
I’d love to hear about your resolutions / overly ambitious plans / word of the year / crawling back in bed for a nap.
