Hi friends! It’s summer!
Working full time, for many years I have struggled with serious mom guilt about not taking my kids or myself on fun adventures every day while it seems like (at least on social media) everyone else is. (Of course I know that’s not really true, but the feelings of guilt are real!) Something about this year feels different… yes, I’m still working full time and one of my kids is still begrudgingly attending full-day summer school, but I just don’t feel bad about it this year. Different, more flexible job? Less time on social media? Plenty of summer plans? Kids are older and more independent? I’m not sure what the reason is, but I’m very glad to be in a better headspace for this season.
2023 Goals Check-In
Since we’re about halfway through the year, it’s time to see how those goals are going.
Done!
Redo landscaping in front flower bed
Renew kids passports
Learn to make biscuits
Grow more succulents (I’m still killing potted succulents, but the ice plants, hens-and-chicks, and sedum I planted in a sunny dry spot in my yard where nothing will grow seem to be doing great! I’m calling it a win.)
Participate in the library Winter Reading Challenge
Attend a knitting group
FInish 2022 travel photo albums
Do 401k rollover from my old job
Go on a Buffalo River float trip
In progress - going well
Lift weights 2-3 times/week
Use up beauty products I already own before buying more
Use more green cleaning products
Use less plastic
Maybe kinda happening
Get a new front door
Listen to more music at home
Read books I have bought before I buy more (for the sake of my two local bookstores I’m ignoring the last part, but I am working on my stack!)
Not started/Probably not going to happen
Go to the Kansas City Zoo (This shouldn’t be hard. We have the tickets! I just need to make a plan. Maybe this fall?)
Clean out storage room (Do I actually care? I’ve decided, not really.)
Learn about tarot (I wanted to be cool like my friend Nicole but I think I’ll let her be the cool witchy friend and I’ll be the knitty-runner-plant lady!)
Book Recommendation
Hello, Molly! by Molly Shannon (audiobook). I love to read celebrity memoirs as a bit of a palate cleanser between dark twisty thrillers and non-fiction that teaches me about the world outside of my personal experience. Of course I was familiar with Molly Shannon’s SNL characters, but I didn’t know anything about her background before SNL. She had some tough circumstances in her early life but managed to keep such a positive attitude through it all.
As always, you can keep up with all my reading on Goodreads.
Haha let’s have a reading soon !
